Judge Ken Tofel is presiding judge of the Precinct Three Justice Court.  The court is located at 100 East Main Street, Suite 202 in the Courthouse, Brenham, Texas.  The office is open from 8:00 am to noon and 1pm until 5pm, Monday through Friday.  The Court DOES NOT accept personal/business/attorney checks for payment of fines.  Payment submitted to the Court MUST be in the form of a cashier's check or money order made out to Washington County JP3.  Payment may also be made by credit card.  You WILL NEED your ticket or case number and/or driver license number to pay by credit card. To pay by credit card ONLINE, please click on the above link.  Next, click on Begin a Payment.  Enter the bureau code of 1117756 for criminal violations or  7991907 for civil cases, and then follow the instructions. To pay by credit card by TELEPHONE, call 1-866-549-1010, enter the bureau code of  1117756 for criminal violations or  7991907 for civil cases, and follow the prompts. Payments by credit card made before midnight will be received by the Court on the next business day. If you have multiple violations, you may make one payment for all violations.

The Court does NOT accept e-mail or faxed information.

Juveniles 16 years and under must present their pleas before the judge and MUST have a parent or legal guardian present.  Please contact the Court for scheduling.

General Rules of Attire and   
Conduct in Judge Tofel's Courts   


Do Not Wear:
1. Shorts or cut-offs
2. Muscle shirts, clothing with offensive, vulgar, racist, sexist, obscene, or suggestive words or slogans or graphics
3. Any kind of hat, pullover or cap
4. Torn, ragged, or dirty clothing
5. Anything that would provoke emotion or disrupt the Court proceedings
 

CONDUCT


You may represent yourself in Justice Court. This is called "pro se" (appearing for oneself).  The defendant should be prepared to present the case to the Court in a proper manner.  In criminal cases, the State will be represented by the County Attorney.  It is your responsibility to understand how to present evidence and how you prove and present your case.  The Court is not permitted to assist you.
1. Be on Time.
2. Rise when the Judge enters the courtroom and remain standing until the Judge or bailiff announces "be seated".
Rise when the Judge leaves the bench.
3. Do not argue with the Judge.
4. Always address the Court as "Judge" or "Your Honor".
5. Only approach the bench after receiving the Judge's permission.
6. Do not chew gum in the courtroom or enter the courtroom with food or beverage.
7. All pagers and cellular phones must be OFF or in quiet mode.
8. No weapons of any kind or unattended packages are allowed in the courtroom.




Judge Ken Tofel is the Presiding Judge for Precinct Three in Washington County.  Judge Tofel took office in January 2015.
