Washington County Engineering and Development Services is responsible for a 626 mile system of county roads and right of ways.  In the Washington County road system 458 miles are classified as paved roads with 168 miles remaining on the waiting list for future paving [2018].

  • Sign making for 911 addressing

Do I need a permit?
  • Building in the floodplain?
    Yes, a floodplain permit is required.
  • Installing, replacing, repairing, or adding to an OSSF (septic) tank?
    Yes, an OSSF permit is required.
  • Installing a driveway fronting a county-maintained road?
    Yes, a culvert permit is required.
  • Installing utilities in the county right-of-way?
    Yes, a utility installation permit is required.
  • Subdividing a tract of land?
    Yes, a subdivision application or variance letter is required.
  • New build or adding on to an existing structure?
    No, no building or electrical permits are required in unincorporated Washington County.
